Spring Decorating Ideas

Spring is the time of year when people adorn their homes with brightly colored, fragrant smelling flowers to symbolize the fresh start and new beginnings that come with the season. Well, unless you’re one of those people who can’t keep a flower alive to save your life. Never fear, there are still many fresh and beautiful ways to decorate for spring that don’t involve soil, water, and pitiful looking potted plants. Here are a few spring decorating ideas!

Start At The Front Door

(Easy Level Spring Decorating Ideas)

Your front door is a great way to add spunk and personality to your home. As one of the first things people see when they arrive at your home, your front door can serve as a blank canvas for seasonal decorating. Pick up a colorful spring themed wreath to hang on the front door (with fake flowers) or hang a small, brightly colored banner to celebrate the season. If you have a front porch, use this space to add a pop of color and decoration to the front of your home. Utilize gardening tools, such as a watering can to hold (fake) flowers, or a chalkboard with a spring themed quote or message to welcome guests to your home. If you have the space set up a brightly colored table and one or two chairs to create a comfortable place to sit outside and enjoy the weather. This is one of the easiest spring decorating ideas!

Spring Inside

(Moderate Level Spring Decorating Ideas)

There are many beautiful (and flower-less) ways to give your home that fresh, springtime feel. Consider using mason jars as centerpieces in your kitchen or on the dining room table. If you’re crafty, paint a few mason jars in soft, pastel colors and use them around the house to display Easter candy or chocolates for guests. A fun and decorative craft idea for kids can make a great spring time addition, like creating a fairy garden (don’t freak out, no plants involved) by filling a jar with tiny pebbles, soil and a leaf or two to create a special home for a tiny, imaginary springtime visitor

You can also put a little spring in your step by adding a few new pieces of artwork to the walls of your home. If you are a creative person, draw, paint or use watercolors to create unique artwork for the season. If arts and crafts (and gardening) aren’t your things, have an artsy friend come up with a few pieces for you, or find original pieces at a local Farmer’s Market. You can decorate your mantle or kitchen counter with small spring themed trinkets, like bunnies, birds, and Easter eggs. This is a spring decorating idea your kids will love!

If you have some extra wood lying around or have access to some, create festive and colorful signs to display inside your home. “Hello Spring” painted in pastel colors on a dark piece of wood is an easy and inexpensive way to decorate, and you can tuck it away when summer rolls around and use it again next year. This is one of my favorite spring decorating ideas!

Spring Outside

(Moderate Level Spring Decorating Ideas)

Don’t panic! You can have a beautiful and festive front and backyard without the stress of keeping flowers alive. Find smooth rocks in your neighborhood and paint them with bright colors and decorate the walkway in front of your home. Tie a cheerful yellow, pink or light blue ribbon to your mailbox or around the trees in your front yard. Set up a birdhouse or birdbath in your backyard to invite feathered friends to your property, add a few backyard lawn games (cornhole is a favorite) to encourage friends and family to get outside and enjoy the fresh air, or give an old bench a touch up with a fresh coat of bright paint, a throw pillow or two and viola! You’ve got a comfortable and spring inspired place to enjoy the cooler weather. If you’re feeling frisky click here for 5 Tips on Spring Lawn Prep by Zillow, which includes a few more spring decorating ideas.

Spring In Smaller Places

(Easy Level Spring Decorating Ideas)

If you live in a condo or apartment (which would be a good call if you hate gardening) you can still use your small space to do big things for spring. Don’t worry! There are plenty spring decorating ideas for smaller spaces. Adding a few brightly colored throw pillows or Afghans to your living room furniture adds a burst of color to your space, and assuming your apartment has a front door and four walls, you can still add spring themed artwork to your living spaces, and use your front door as a canvas to welcome guests. Before you get crazy and spend a lot of time and money sprucing up your space, you’ll want to do a thorough review of a good investment to make sure each project that you work on makes sense for your particular home.

Spring is a time for fresh starts, and this could be the year you decide to get your hands dirty and keep a plant alive for more than two weeks (hey, we all have to start somewhere!) If you’re ready to dive into the world of gardening, Marigolds and Black-Eyed Susans top the list for easiest Spring flowers to take care of. But, if you’ve sworn off flowers for life, it is easy and relatively inexpensive to create a festive and fresh springtime space both inside and outside of your home.
